Poppy Jones Launch & Signing | Wednesday March 12th, 6-8pm

Please join us on Wednesday March 12th, 6-8pm for a launch and signing with Poppy Jones.

In Poppy Jones —her eponymous first monograph published by Zolo Press— the artist looks back at the past four years of her practice. By using the workflow of an iPhone, a printer, the polyester plate, the etching press, and a watercolour finishing, Jones has been creating small-scale images reflecting on a domestically orientated life, yet still drawing on art historical references intuitively. With the rigour of a printmaker and the freedom of a self-trained eye, the works in the book embody Jones’s ability to combine a highly formalist approach to painting with an intimate gaze on everydayness. Through her interest in the transformative qualities of light, an understanding of how time can be embedded into objects, and a realisation that the boundaries between what is personal and public are porous, Jones slows down the reading of her surroundings, drawing attention to how technology is changing our relationship with reality. With more than 90 works and a thorough conversation with artist Paul Siestma, this monograph sheds some light on an artistic practice that is both enigmatic and poetic, strictly formal and touchingly intimate, aware of social media image-making and capable of processing such material through the filter of the cultural.
