Offsite Event | Hackney Flashers. Agitprop, Labour and Socialist Feminism in England. | Institut Français, Wednesday 19 March, 7pm

We are pleased to collaborate in the event Hackney Flashers: Agitprop, Labour and Socialist Feminism in England at Institut Français on Wednesday 19 March, 7pm.

In the context of Tate’s major retrospective The 80s: Photographing Britain, French curators Camille Richert and Georgia René-Worms are invited to talk about their research on the Hackney Flashers, a collective of socialist-feminist artists active in the 1970-80’s in London.

They will be joined by Patrizia di Bello, Professor of History and Theory of Photography (Birkbeck, University of London), and artist Michael Ann Mullen.

This year marks the 50th anniversary of the Flashers’ first exhibition which documented women at work in Hackney through numerous photographs and texts.

During the event we will be selling copies of Parents Must Unite + Fight – Hackney Flashers: Agitprop, Labor and Socialist Feminism in England, the first monograph dedicated to the Hackney Flashers collective by Camille Richert.
