A handsome French edition of the ultimate erotic novel Story of O. The author of O Anne Desclos, who published under the pseudonym Pauline Réage, chose not to reveal herself until forty years after the initial publication. Desclos began writing the novel as a series of love letters to her lover Jean Paulhan who admired the work of the Marquis de Sade. Histoire D'O became a hugely influential work not least as an example of a woman writing so candidly on themes of love, dominance and submission. In 1955 Story of O won the Prix des Deux Magots but the French authorities still brought obscenity charges against the publisher soon after. This is the second printing released in 1954.
