Not Much of a View from Here - Ben Goulder
Not Much of a View from Here brings together a series of prose fragments and photographs that dwell in the aftermath of loss. Shaped by walks, funerals, and offhand remarks, the work traces small moments of disruption: a plastic grave marker, a paper cup left to cool on a radiator, the way people laugh too loudly when they don’t know what else to do.
Ben Goulder explores the social rituals around grief with close attention to atmosphere, gesture, and unresolved feeling. Rather than focusing on dramatic events, the work lingers in the things left behind: cigarette ends, beige buffets, shoes that squeak in the wrong moments. Through these details, Not Much of a View from Here asks how absence settles into space, and how mourning becomes a choreography we learn by watching others. Part photographic study, part poetic observation, the project maps the emotional debris of loss as it appears in overlooked places.
Ben Goulder's work moves across publishing, creative direction, editing, and curation. He is the founder of New Dimension, an independent publishing house devoted to photography and contemporary art.
