The Language of Glaze: Shimizu Uichi at 100

Published to accompany the inaugural exhibition by deBiousse&West, The Language of Glaze: Shimizu Uichi at 100 celebrates the birth centenary of Shimizu Uichi (1926–2004), one of Japan's most celebrated masters of ceramic glaze.

Bringing together forty previously unseen works from the artist's family collection, the publication features texts by leading academics and members of the Shimizu family, alongside archival material from the artist's studio and comprehensive documentation of all forty exhibited works.

Produced as a limited-edition hardback, this publication marks the beginning of a series of books by deBiousse&West, created to accompany each exhibition and reflect the materiality, scholarship and craftsmanship at the heart of the gallery's programme.
