Samba Samba Brasil.
MIKI, Jun.
Samba Samba Brasil.
First edition. 4to. Printed boards in slipcase. Numerous colour and b&w images. Texts in English, Portuguese and Japanese. Tokyo: Kenko-Sha, 1967.
Brilliant portrait of Brazil shot from 1958-1960 by Jun Miki. He was more known as a photojournalist (the first Japanese photographer to be published in Life), and this was the only book he produced in his lifetime. His focus includes the brilliant architecture of Oscar Niemeyer and Lucio Costa, Beaches, Women, Carnivals and lots of street work. The black and white plates are beautifully printed in gravure with a stunning colour section towards the end. An amazing and underrated book, quite rightly now regarded as a sixties classic.
