Yohji Yamamoto Band.
£325.00
YAMAMOTO, Yohji.
Yohji Yamamoto Band.
First edition. Folio. Loose leaf unpaginated look-book with full bleed photography throughout. English & Japanese texts. (N.p): Yohji Yamamoto, (c. 1990).
Lightly creased. A very good copy.
A stylish tabloid look-book celebrating the enigmatic 'Yohji Yamamoto Band', a little-known conceptual folk-rock group assembled briefly by the fashion designer in the 90s. Yohji Yamamoto composed and performed folk-rock songs in Japanese along with a small ensemble including bassist Michael Rhodes (who also modelled for Yamamoto in the 1990s), Chad Cromwell, Chuei Yoshikawa and Hirofumi Tokutake; with the band all dressed in the latest Yamamoto collection. The large-scale tabloid format of the publication, using collage and full-bleed photography throughout, feels reminiscent of the Comme des Garçons serial Six. Here sumptuous images are interspersed with song lyrics in Japanese. A super rare piece of Yamamoto ephemera adding another dimension to the designers' output.
