The Isamu Noguchi Garden Museum.
First edition. Landscape 4to. 170pp with colour and b&w plates throughout. Printed wraps in dust wrapper. English and Japanese texts. Tokyo: Bijutsu Shuppan, 2009.
Beautiful catalogue documenting the Isamu Noguchi Garden Museum in Shikoku, Japan with photography by Kishin Shinoyama and direction by Issey Miyake. The publication opens with texts by Noguchi outlining his intentions for the garden and museum collection. The museum aims to preserve the working atmosphere of Noguchi's studio with 150 sculptures on display, many of which are unfinished. The interplay between artworks and the garden is integral to Noguchi's vision. As he puts it 'I believe that sculpture is simply a way of teaching people about nature'.
