This publishing project is inspired by Gabriel Garcia Marquez’s 1961 novella No One Writes To The Colonel, which he considered to be his greatest work. Fifteen visual communicators from the Reader Elective at the Royal College of Art, London have responded to the text, exploring and interpreting its themes and ideas, and investigating its cultural and historical setting. Each of the contributors has entered a different corner of the story. Their work is scattered in different places, jumping out of the publication, expressing their individual positions and voices. They constitute a recurring echo: a contemporary reading of the text, combining words, visuals and sensory experiences. Through such practices and explorations, each contributor has discovered and extended their unique understanding of the novel, seeking to engage not just with Marquez’s story but with the immersive act of reading itself.

Please join us for the book launch and drinks on 30 June, 6-8pm.
