For Frieze London 2025 Tenderbooks presents a new site-specific installation by artist Miriam Stoney in collaboration with Brunette Coleman. Please join us on Saturday 11 October, 6-8pm for the private view and in conversation between the artist and Helena Czernecka of Hela Press.

With Ideal Translations (2025), Stoney gestures towards the ways and means by which an enigmatic message – such as those contained within a piece of writing in a book or a verbal annunciation – might be rendered intelligible. What is shown here, however, is something that might be considered a "bad translation." Deciding to do away with the valorisation, Stoney instead considers translation, generally speaking, as a process that inevitably distorts meanings. The question that arises, then, is what this change actually does for/to/with the message and its recipient.
