The series ‘Spektrum’, published in East Berlin by Volk und Welt from 1968 to 1993, embodied ideals of accessibility and usability. The series designer Lothar Reher employed striking imagery often with oblique relationship to the book’s contents using recurring motifs such as skulls, faces and museological artefacts. These six books focus on designs relating to the female face or profile.
