Shiseido Prior was a corporate magazine distributed exclusively to Shiseido's customers. Edited by important figures in Japanese graphic art and illustration, such as Ayao Yamana and Shigeo Fukuda, this issue is a special edition focusing on contemporary Kimono style by leading Japanese designers.

Shiseido produced a variety of free publications such as its corporate culture magazine Hanatsubaki that began in 1937. The ethos of Hanatsubaki aimed to deliver hints on living life beautifully through visual material such as photographs and graphics but also via essays and short literature. This scarce volume of Shiseido Prior produced in 1965 includes chapters on travel, theatre, children's health and food alongside those on beauty and style. The scope of the brands' vision and its attention to quality and aesthetics, is clear in this handsomely illustrated catalogue. A remarkably beautiful production for a publication that was not available on the newsstand.
