KLEIN, William.
New York 1954-55.
First printing of the French re-edition. Tall 4to., Unpaginated with full-bleed b&w plates in black boards with red glossy dust jacket. French text. Paris, Marval, 1995.
Dust jacket lightly rubbed. A near fine copy.

The retitled, enlarged and expanded volume of Klein’s magnum opus, Life is Good & Good For You in New York, originally published by filmmaker Chris Marker in Paris in 1956, and the first of Klein’s four city books. This edition includes 100 additional pages of photographs, many previously unpublished, to which Klein gives a page-by-page commentary. A unique body of work creating its own language in response to the excitement of the city, thriving on speed, surprise and accident. Klein describes it as ‘a tabloid gone berserk, gross, over-inked, brutal layout, bullhorn headlines. That was what New York deserved and would get.’
