The King of the Circle - Kiyoshi Awazu

AWAZU, Kiyoshi.
Maru no Osama. [The King of the Circle].
First edition. Square 8vo. 23pp with full-bleed rich colour illustrations throughout in stiff card wrappers. Japanese text. Tokyo: Fukuinkan Shoten, 1971.
A little discoloured to the edges of the wrappers. Contents are fine and bright.

The first edition of Kiyoshi Awazu's psychedelic children's book that pays homage to the circle. Awazu's magical illustrations collaborate with a text by poet Shuntaro Tanikawa to describe a dance of objects such as plates, cymbals, ball bearings, pearls and oranges that compete to become the 'the King of the Circle'. A scarce and remarkably innovative example of Kiyoshi Awazu's work.
