ALLAN KAPROW. An Exhibition sponsored by the Art Alliance of the Pasadena Art Museum.
First edition. Small 4to. 56pp spiral exhibition bound catalogue with b&w illustrations in stiff cardboard covers. Pasadena: Pasadena Art Museum, 1967. Inner boards a little foxed and the first pages somewhat sunned.
Handsome exhibition catalogue for Kaprow’s show at Pasadena Art Museum. The publication opens with a foreword by the artist: ‘I am put off by museums in general; they reek of a holy death which offends my sense of reality’. Kaprow sets out his intentions to ‘camouflage the museum environment as much as possible’. Included are a chronology of works and an interview with Barbara Berman. The catalogue gives excellent photographic documentation of a number of Kaprow’s immersive installation ‘enviroment’ works. At the end of the catalogue there is an announcement for a happening entitled ‘FLUIDS’: ‘During three days, about twenty rectangular enclosures of ice blocks (measuring about 30 feet long, 10 wide and 8 high) are built throughout the city. Their walls are unbroken. They are left to melt.’
