£200.00

PIDGEON, Monica ed.
[Four issues of Architectural Design, 1971]
Four issues of the journal Architectural Design AD [each 28 x 23cm, 64pp], profusely illustrated and in brightly coloured stapled wraps. London: North Riding Publishing Co and Whitefrairs Press, 1971.
Wrappers a little rubbed, near fine.

Founded in 1930, and edited by Monica Pidgeon for more than three decades, the Bloomsbury-based journal  Architectural Design (AD) was renowned for its radical approach to contemporary architectural theory, environment, interiors, landscape architecture and urban design. Its opening news section 'Cosmorama' discussed 'commentary on buildings or on events throughout the world that impinge upon architecture' and was characteristically futuristic in its approach, by featuring floating architecture, foam, inflatables, submarines, mobile structures, drugs, cybernetics and domes. The pages are richly illustrated scrapbook-style with diagrams and clippings.

These volumes feature Cedric Price, Liberty communes, Tube buildings, Garbage housing and The Super Sensualists.
