Roth's artist book composed of a series of photographs documenting the original Snow, an epic unique book work produced while on a residency at the Philadelphia Museum College of Art in 1964. For Snow Roth created a collection of six thousand drawings, photographs and collages. He then selected five hundred of these to be reproduced in book form, but the publication was cancelled and the artist returned to Iceland with his work. In 1969, Roth turned his unpublished book project into an installation by adding a table - on which to view the large book - and two wooden chairs. A year later, a further book version of Snow was finally printed as the eleventh volume of Roth's self–published catalogue raisonné with a cover design by Joe Filzen. The books in the Collected Works series were not issued sequentially (Volume 15 was published first), nor did they present the artist’s work chronologically, but all were the same trim size, allowing for the economical reuse of material at the printer.
