Boy. Brother. Friend. Issue 2: Power
Boy.Brother.Friend is a print publication and digital platform which seeks to examine the diaspora and male identities through contemporary art, fashion, and theory.
Issue 2 explores the theme of Power, which unfolds over four chapters: Internal & External Forces, Love & Money, Privatisation and Institutions & Infrastructure, featuring Jelili Atiku, Sabelo Mlangeni, The Cavemen, Kenneth Ize, and more.
For the second issue the publication offers the choice of four covers for its print edition. The first features an intimate shot of Nigerian model and photographer Mewalga Mohammed, resting casually at the edge of a fountain in the Lekki district of Lagos. The second features a spectral, totem-like drawing by one of Nigeria's most enigmatic contemporary artists, the extraordinary Jelili Atiku. The third captures acclaimed designer Kenneth Ize, standing in the corridor of his Lagos studio - confident, majestic and authentic. The fourth catches the quiet glamour of bridal paraphernalia at a South African wedding - shot by renowned photographer Sabelo Mlangeni.
The Power edition features intimate portraits, introspective pieces, confessions and multimedia experiments from creative visionaries including Daniel Obasi, whose namesake studio conjures dreams for the likes of American Vogue and afrobeat stars Tiwa Savage and Rema. Paris based Reto Schmid; photographer Lakin Ogunbanwo, amongst a wide selection of Lagos's most inspiring creatives and emerging talents banding together to collectively tell their own stories. High-level fashion abounds.
