£75.00 £95.00
[MASSEY, John.]
How to add eye-power to your ideas.
First edition. Square 8vo. Unpaginated.[12pp] of colour illustrated diagrams. Stapled b&w illustrated heavy card wrappers. Neenah: Kimberly-Clark Corporation, [N.d.].
Heavy crease to the right corner. Slight red pencil rubbing to reverse of the wrapper.

Striking and clever piece of corporate design ephemera that reads like an artist book on optical effects. The striking cover design and cool graphic diagrams within explain elements of visual phenomena or what it terms 'EYE-POWER'. The manual instructs how to 'attract the eye to the message and communicate it with such clarity that is readily understood'. At the end of the booklet there is a subtle sales pitch for a new paper stock 'Prentice Velvet', which is said to provide 'glare-free readability'. This highly original tool of corporate communications design is the work of Chicago-based graphic designer John Massey, a leader of the modernist movement in American design. A scarce item with no copies discovered on WorldCat.
