MINDPLAY: An Anthology of British Concrete Poetry - John Sharkey

Sharkey, John (Edited by). MINDPLAY: An Anthology of British Concrete Poetry.
First edition. 8vo., [92pp.], numerous b&w plates in the original trade illustrated paper wraps. A review copy with the publishers compliments slip inserted. London, Lorrimer Publishing, 1971.
A good copy with some light reading wear.
An important and uncommon anthology documenting early experiments in visual poetry with contributions from Alan Riddell, Dom S. Houedard, Bob Cobbing, Thomas A. Clark, John Furnival, Edwin Morgan and more. Notable and controversial at the time was the omission of Ian Hamilton Finlay’s work who had refused the invitation to be included because ‘he found it increasingly impossible to detect any shared formal criteria by the late 60s. Nor could he find any criteria of quality that linked all of these productions. One had to move on to something else’ (quoted in Jamie Hilder, Designed Words for a Designed World - The International Concrete Poetry Movement 1955-1971).
