A massive, immersive Shiseido annual from 2001. Only 16 Hanatsubaki annuals were published from 1996 to 2011. Gorgeous production with the 12 issues of the magazine assembled into sections that begin with a double-sided fold-out illustration like a poster. The pages feature fashion reportage from the Paris shows, health and beauty, contemporary Japanese art and culture. While many of the features promote Japanese emerging artists and designers the magazine also recruits the coolest figures on the international scene. Included in this volume are special features on Pierre Hardy, Eley Kishimoto, Corinne Day, The Jim Shaw Collection of Thrift Store Paintings, a conceptual photo essay on the New York subway by Mark Higashino, a 'London Boys' shoot by Stephen Jones, and more. Plus of course plenty of Shiseido’s iconic styling.
