From 1990 to 1992 Hashiguchi photographed 103 couples across Japan based on the condition that they "recognize each other as partners and are not married." These are couples of different professions and ages including same sex and interracial partnerships. Each couple is photographed in their chosen surroundings. An incredibly striking body of work, both in its romance and quiet social commentary.
