ACCONCI, Vito. Liza Bear & Willoughby Sharp.
Avalanche: Fall 1972 - Number Six. Special Issue on Vito Acconci.
First edition. Square quarto. 80pp with b&w illustrations throughout. Stapled wraps. New York: Avalanche, 1972.
Light rubbing on the wrappers. A very good copy.

A special issue of the important artist-led periodical that is entirely devoted to the work of Vito Acconci. Descriptions of performance works from 1969 onwards are written by Acconci himself and accompanied by extensive photographic documentation. This is certainly an important record of the trajectory of Acconci’s ephemeral and often extreme works. Works are divided into categories such as ‘moving my body into place’ or ‘performing myself’.

Various classifieds give a flavour of the magazine’s focus on a New York Soho art scene. Gordon Matta Clark’s restaurant FOOD is advertised enigmatically with a photograph of cabbage leaves. Cover image shows a smoking Acconci photographed by Van Schley.
